Receptionist Honey always helpful. Restaurant goes above and beyond, it can’t do enough for you. Housekeeping brilliant service, rooms clean regularly. Food lovely. Service at the bar from Andrea quick and accommodating. I do not have reason to stay somewhere else. Room number 553

I stayed here for one night whilst going to a conference. I did not have great expectations but the Hotel and its staff exceeded my expectations. The room was immaculate and the food and service were both good. What made me write this review was the staff. They were all, without fail, charming and nothing was too much effort. I had brought my own pillow (which I always travel with) and stupidly left it behind. The staff went out of their way to find it and return it too me. I know I will be coming to Birmingham again for conference and will make sure I return here. Next time I won't leave my pillow!

Worst hotel experience ever!

This hotel is in a very dangerous area of Birmingham, so bad that you do not want to leave the hotel. They do not allow personal liquor in your room because there is a bar in the hotel. We booked this hotel because it had a pool. When we arrived, we found the pool to be empty and under renovation. There were cockroaches in the bathroom, the carpets were dirty, and they only supplied decaf coffee in the room. The check-in staff was not friendly at all and not very helpful. The bar staff was better, but the food was nothing to rave about. Pieces fell off the door to our room, and the windows were all cracked, from what looked like bullet holes. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the beds are super comfortable and no bed bugs.

Cold water & negative service attitude

Positives: 1. Super excellent cleaning job done by the housekeeping. 2. Complimentary airport shuttle 3. Close to the airport 4. Clean and organized lobby 5. Plenty of parking - and they waive the parking fee if you are staying with them. 5. Clean bed Negatives: 1. Danielle accused me of "looking for problems" at check-in counter after I gave her a heads up about me "walk the room" upon arrival to check if there is any issues or things I needed. She had grumpy face. 2. Long check-in: Ran my credit card three times to finally charge for incidental hold, also had system issue where they had to reboot their computers. 3. Hot water is NOT hot, rarely warm. Raised issue, they said they had renovation, other guests complained but accepted their reasons when they explained. There wasn't much they could do since it's after 11pm. They asked me to call the maintenance myself or just accepted it. 4. Asked for extra roll of toilet paper. They just changed the shift; the new staff asked me to go to the front desk to get it myself without any reasons. I explained most hotels including Holiday Inns in Washington DC where I recently stayed were responsive and brought them and dropped it off at my room. He kept on making excuses saying he was the only one at the lobby, and they had to wait for security to come and drop it off. Took more than 60 minutes to get it delivered. This was slow and long, especially I asked if 30 minutes was enough for them to look for it and deliver over, they all said (both shifts) 30 minutes was plenty. This front desk staff at 11pm shift also hung up on me, and I was not able to capture his name. I did record it. 5. The plastic wrap of two cups in the room was half opened. Other comments: 1. It's right next to a highway, can hear noises from highway at night, but the hotel itself was quiet. 2. There are two gas stations next to it 3. There is a sizable bar/restaurant on the floor. 4. They have complimentary airport shuttle, and drivers were professional and helpful. 1 out of 5 overall rating mainly for cold water and negative attitude when raising issues. Had they not had cold shower, better service attitude, they would have earned at least 3 to 4 out of 5. I personally wouldn't stay here again due to cold shower and bad attitude from some of its staff (mentioned above, Daniell and the man after 11pm shift, all others were fine). If you are OK only with cold shower and be treated with disrespect and rudeness, and must be close to the airport, then this can be an option.

I am not sure if the resturant in the hotel is owned or operated by IHG, the food is very good but the service is very slow. I really was disappoint by the bathroom. The water temperture nver got above tepid in the shower and there was not shampoo. I know I could have got dressed and gone to the front desk and asked for the shampoo, but we were traveling and needed to get on the road. The room itself was clean and comfortable and the staff was outstanding. If we are traveling through that area again, we will probably stay there.
